JANUARY 2019

The new year tends to bring reflection and change along with it. For most of us, at least.

One year ago, I was just starting to take photography seriously. Learning my camera, learning the ins and outs of editing, taking portraits of mostly just my friends.

I still feel as if I’m a beginner sometimes, because I do have so much more to learn- but never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d come this far. I have surpassed a number of goals I had set for myself in January 2018, and that has given me so much confidence and motivation going into this new year.

The latter of 2018, I took an interest in film photography- experimenting with disposable film and a polaroid camera a friend of mine was kind enough to lend out. I was so excited and grateful to had been gifted my dad’s old Canon 35mm for Christmas along with a new Polaroid which brings me to my next point…

I’m switching to film!

About 90% at least. I will still offer digital work for brands and clients upon request- but all of my shoots from this point will be mostly 35mm film.

I’m excited for this new challenge and the extra time it will give me to devote towards developing ideas for personal creative shoots, booking shoots for clients, and reaching out to brands I’d like to work with.

Why film?

It just made sense to me. I spend hours achieving a “film” style for my digital work- when in reality nothing can quite replicate the true look of film- so why not just go for the real thing?

I am also hoping to create more video content this year, so I won’t be abandoning digital completely. Although, I am interested in exploring 8mm and other film mediums eventually. I would ideally like to create some creative visual work along with more educational content. Think tutorials, behind the scenes, answering questions, or talking about photography topics that interest me or things I would want to know as a beginner.

I’m hoping to use this blog space to share monthly updates, direction, creative projects, etc for anyone interested in keeping up with it!

January has been mostly personal shoots, bringing to life some creative ideas I’ve been sitting on the past couple months and feeling comfortable shooting film only. I am looking to start booking portrait sessions and hopefully find some local businesses to work/collaborate with. If you would like to work with me, check out my contact form on the homepage and let’s make it happen!

Cheers to 2019!
